Mike Kinkade
Mike KinkadeOwner, Coach

Coach Mike came to Pullman in 1991 on a baseball scholarship for the Washington State University Cougars. He played four years and earned All-American Honors. He went on to play professionally for a total of fourteen years which included playing for the New York Mets, Baltimore Orioles, and Los Angeles Dodgers. He also spent one year overseas in Japan playing for the Hanshin Tigers. The highlight of his baseball career…

…being selected as part of Team USA two times; first, in the 2000 Olympics where Team USA captured Gold, and again in 2006 on the qualifying team for the 2008 Olympics. Mike retired from playing baseball in 2008 and began his coaching career, both in youth sports and eventually professional baseball.

Mike has been fortunate enough to train and rehabilitate from various injuries with some of the best coaches and fitness professionals in the business. He took bits and pieces along the way to establish his own workout programs. It was over five years ago that his long- established programs were thrown by the wayside due to his discovery of CrossFit.

He was urged to try CrossFit by a co-worker and was hooked from the get-go. Due to the nature of his then career, he was able to travel and drop-in at various Boxes around the country. As he progressed he started to see gains in strength, endurance, mobility, and most importantly, a decrease in overall pain, that he had never experienced with any other fitness program. He believed so much in this new-found fitness philosophy that he made the decision to switch his coaching hat from baseball to CrossFit.

Coach Mike’s CrossFit philosophies center around form first, then consistency, and finally pushing intensity. He has four sons who are often around the gym. Mike is proud to be able to get them involved in his programming from an early age to learn good health and fitness habits.

Coach Mike is thankful to have the Pullman CrossFit Community join him in the goal of improving fitness and quality of life.

Jake Elder
Jake ElderCoach

Coach Jake is originally from Kansas and went to Kansas State University where he got his degree in Microbiology. Jake competed in cross country, track, and powerlifting in high school and had followed various body building programs before he started designing his own programs with an emphasis on functional fitness.  In 2009 he found CrossFit, really liked the philosophy and began reading every CrossFit Journal…

article, watching every video CrossFit posted, and followed the mainsite (as closely as it was possible at the K-State rec). Using the videos and articles he learned the basic skills and movements. Since his time at Kansas State, Jake has done CrossFit since then several University Recs, globo gyms, and at Hub City CrossFit in Lubbock, TX before joining Pullman CrossFit.

After joining Pullman CrossFit, Jake saw huge gains in his fitness and strength that come with great programming and a competitive environment. Wanting to be more involved at Pullman CrossFit, Jake became a CrossFit Level One trainer and started coaching. Jake has really enjoyed coaching and helping people improve their fitness. He finds it especially rewarding to see members hit new PRs or complete a gymnastic movement through hard work and a little help from the coaches when necessary.

Lately, Jake has placed and emphasis on weightlifting in his own training and has completed the USAW Strength Performance Coach course. His goal is to use his own experience following a weightlifting program and the information from the course to help members improve their clean, jerk, and snatch.

Jake really appreciates the great members and community at Pullman CrossFit.

Scott Parrish
Scott ParrishCoach

Scott grew up just down the road in Colfax and currently resides there. While growing up he participated in a variety of organized sports as a youth and eventually settled on playing baseball, basketball and football during his high school years. After high school, Scott went off to play college baseball at Big Bend Community College for two seasons, followed by another two seasons at Central Washington University as a pitcher.

Since his playing days, Scott has been heavily involved in the local youth baseball scene, running tournaments, helping at local camps and coaching at Colfax High School for the past four seasons and a total of nine seasons all together. Scott also had spent time coaching and working in the college ranks with Big Bend Community College as a pitching coach and with Washington State University as a graduate assistant.

It was during his time at Washington State where Scott got his first introduction to high intensity training, working out with several of the strength trainers and doing their own daily workouts. From that point on he began doing drop ins at as many of the nearby boxes until he became a full time member of Pullman CrossFit in March of 2015 and has been an active member ever since.

What began as a great way to stay in shape while being able to embrace the competition aspect offered by CrossFit, Scott formed a passion for CrossFit, the Pullman CrossFit community and being able to spread that passion to all those seeking a greater level of fitness.
